Bulgaria President Participates in ASEM Meeting in China
|
The Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov is in China where he is going to participate in the 7th summit of the state leaders of the countries members of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) on October 24 and 25.
Leaders of 45 countries from both continents are going to participate in the summit, which will be held in Beijing.
The forum is held every two years under the motto "Vision and Action: Towards a Win-Win Solution".
The global financial crisis is expected to dominate the agenda of the meeting, where leaders are going to address the causes of the meltdown and discuss the international, business and financial situation, climate changes and readiness to deal with natural disasters.
Parvanov is scheduled to speak during the third session of the forum, which is dedicated to energy security and dialogue among countries.
The Bulgarian President is also going to meet with the President of Indonesia and the Premiers of Vietnam and India.
The Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) was officially established in 1996 at the first summit in Bangkok with the goal of facilitating better collaboration between the two continents. ASEM consists of the European Commission, the twenty-seven members of the European Union (EU), the thirteen members of the ASEAN Plus Three regional grouping and, as of 2008, India, Mongolia, and Pakistan.
