Bulgaria President Appoints New Ambassador to US
|
The Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov appointed Tuesday Bulgarian diplomat Luchezar Petkov as the country's new Ambassador to the USA.
The decree for the Ambassador's appointment, signed by Parvanov is published in the Tuesday issue of the Bulgarian State Gazette.
Petkov is a career diplomat - he has been the Consul of Bulgaria in New York, the Bulgarian Ambassador in Warsaw as well as the Director of the "Human Resource" Office at the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry.
Bulgaria's previous Ambassador to Washington DC - Elena Poptodorova is returning back to the country and will be working at the Foreign Ministry in Sofia, most likely as Head of one of the Ministry's Directorates.
Elena Poptodorova is known in Bulgarian politics as a leftist, close to the President Parvanov. She has been a Member of the Parliament with several mandates, first as a representative of the Bulgarian Socialist Party and later as representative of the social-democratic parties and fractions. |
